Picture a cool-temperate jungle with 'wild' chooks strutting about with picking greens (for humans, too) year-round. I'm on an 800sqm block in the town of Blayney (pop about 3,000), just half an hour's drive from either Orange or Blayney in the Central West. I've build up this permaculture garden over the past eight years without chemicals.. Three's not a lot of grass left. By day I'm a journalist/copywriter working freelance from home, so usually my hours to work in the garden with you will be flexible.

'Kurrajong,' my property is situated on the far south coast of NSW in Yuin Country. My outlook is to the North West but I am only 10 mins drive from lovely National Park beaches and the coast. I have 5 acres of mostly farmland and some forest with tall Forest Red Gums and Kurrajong trees featuring in the valley. I have horses and large gardens to care for and am still trying to build my house out of recycled timbers and tin. I could offer self-contained accommodation for anyone willing to help in my garden and weeding paddocks as I don't use any pesticides. I am completely off the grid and on stand alone solar and water. I am a writer and an educator so I work from home on my creative projects when not teaching or tutoring. I have an old dog and used to have a lot of poultry but foxes took them all after the fires came through in 2020. I was very close to the fire front and it was rather frightening. So I have been working hard to get my house protected. There would be plenty of small building projects if that was something you were interested in. There is no public transport near my place so you would need your own transport although I and many kind people living in the area would help out I am sure. We call it paradise down here as the waterways are pristine and the area lush but we try to remain reasonably quiet about that.

It's time I started to learn how to grow things and live less from supermarkets. This has been on my mind for too long, and I think now, with what's happening with this crazy virus, it's time for me to embrace living in an alternative way.

I joined WWOOF because I have a keen passion for the environment and saving it in for future and the more I educate myself the more I realise that food and agriculture is a huge area that we need to address as a global community. I also want to travel, have an adventure on my semester off and meet new people while learning new skills and knowledge.

City/Town: outside of Cobargo
Farming Methods: Organic
Accommodation Type: Caravan
Our 20 acre farm is surrounded by bush in the Bega Valley near Cobargo. The Dec 2019/2020 fires came close, 800m away, but we were so lucky to be spared. We are experimenting with growing food that we use and give away. We had a huge crop of 6000 garlic a few years ago, this year we have 213 tomatoes! And a bunch of delicious salads, onions, pumpkins, potatoes and giant sunflowers. We need help to realise our dreams but also to maintain the ones we have started. We both work as writers and researchers and the garden is our favourite fun. To take it and many projects and ideas to the next stage, including Chicken World and planting a bunch of fruit trees, we are keen for some WWOOF friends to join us to leapfrog forward.

I initially joined WWOOF so that I could leave Melbourne's Covid-19 lockdown and work towards a second working holiday visa. But since then, I have discovered that WWOOFing as an ethos and a way of life aligns very closely with many of my interests. Australia is at the forefront of multiple environmental issues that will eventually impact the lives of all of us, so I think the education that WWOOFing can provide is invaluable - not to mention fascinating.

About Patrice: Patrice Newell was once on Television. But she left that industry in 1987 to become a sustainable land manager and writer/researcher dedicated to developing and communicating improved agricultural systems and innovations in an era of rapid climate change. Elmswood Farm has been her obsession ever since. We are a Bio-dynamic/organic farm producing and retailing garlic, olive oil, beef and honey. The WWOOFing jobs depend on when you are with us. Sometimes we are busy, especially November and April, other times not so. Accommodation for 4 in own house next to ours, some shared meals, mixed diet,  No smoking inside. Initial stay 2-4 weeks, longer stays negotiable. What work experiences are available to WWOOFers? Work includes planting, mulching, weeding, harvesting, clipping or packing garlic. Stock work available for those with stock experience. Fencing work depending if WWOOFer is strong and interested.

Welcome to Athena's Garden. Although I am only 10 minutes to Townsville city centre - I am making an oasis on my acre of land so that it feels more remote. It is a short distance to see the koalas on Magnetic Island and the rainforest wonders nearby.

I want to learn while experiencing Australia! I'd love to meet great people and learn about horsemanship, permaculture, and any other skills they might have to share. In return I'll put in the work, AND sing/write stories/draw for you if you like! I'd also absolutely love to find the places that are special to locals. That's a large part of the point of traveling, for me.

Hey! We are Felicity, John, Noah (3.5yrs) and Ari (1yr) And we are SO excited to be taking to the road this year, from Melbourne, to explore our beautiful state of Victoria. We’ll be WWOOFing our way around Victoria to: - learn homesteading/building/practical earth-based skills, and contribute our uniqueness to families we stay with - experience a different way of living - feel out rural communities as a potential place to move and live - deep connection to the wild - simplicity, slowness, non clock time - bond as a family - step out of our lives and be open to radically change the way we live - learn about indigenous connection to land

To intersperse my time writing and researching with more physical and social activity. To be with like-minded people in rural areas and to help people on the land with their self-sufficiency, care of the environment and food production.

Skills I Want to Learn: Permaculture/Biodynamics
I am currently traveling around Australia while waiting for the international borders to open up again; in the meantime I am keen to put my hands in the soil and get some practical experience to extend my knowledge of permaculture.

I would like to experience something new and challenging. I am interested in learning new skills and also learning about organic farming methods. I would like to meet new people and new cultures. I like the added security of an organisation that is the go between as I would be uncertain about how to access farms on my own.
