City/Town:
Farming Methods: Biodynamic
Accommodation Type: In Our Home
I have recently purchased a house on 6 Acres down an almost private valley just next to Lake Wivenhoe, a 1 hour drive from Brisbane CBD & 8 min drive from Fernvale. I have an associate who is into bio-dynamic organic farming & he is going to be the architect of this new project. We are going to design & then execute a master plan for the property so it is as self- reliant as possible, we will also be using knowledge from Peter Andrews about how to turn the usually dry seasonal creek bed into a permanent year round water source, we will be doing swales & contouring of the land to slow down the water flow & to hopefully give it year round hydration that won't require any extra irrigation. I am a keen enthusiast of machinery & like to keep manual labour to a minimum. I already have an organic vege garden where I currently live in town which I have been growing for the last 3 years & it has been great, but at this new place the idea is to expand on that significantly, to also rare a few livestock & to plant nitrogen fixing trees & bushes around the property to naturally benefit the food crop. I will also be looking at animal feed crops to grow. I currently have one Kubota tractor with front end loader, rotary hoe, and flail mower, (yes the neighbours do look at me funny), and there's also another tractor that came with the new place so we should be pretty good as far as tractors go. There is a lake just next door (3-5 min drive and you are at the water’s edge), this will provide convenient recreational opportunities nearby such as swimming, fishing & boating, Mount Glorious Rd is also just a few minutes away which too is a beautiful area to explore. I have spare rooms so am happy to provide accommodation. Working hours very negotiable, chill place.

We are a farm of 136 acres on the edge of Easter National Park, 30 Kms from the lovely town of Nannup in the South West of Western Australia. We produce marron (freshwater crayfish) for sale in local and international markets. We are building infrastructure for future dairy goat heard and pigs, with practice goats Dolly and Vincent van Goat, pigs Virginia Wolf and Richard the begins of this development. Current projects being worked on are farm regeneration and erosion control, tree planting, marron purge and chiller tanks, bio-filter. Also, need help building and developing orchards and gardens, the construction of animal and haysheds and building portable shelters and fences to move livestock (pigs, goats and chooks) on pasture between our swales. Honey is also something we would like to produce and we have currently 2 hives. We are working towards self-sufficiency with vegetable gardens and fruit trees, including new panting of olives, avocado and nut trees. We love having WWOOFers so email us now to set up a visit.

Are you keen to learn what is involved in running an almost self sufficient farm? Would you like to work with animals and plants, set up new systems and maintain existing systems on the farm and learn how to improve soil quality? Would you like to eat homegrown food, discover how to separate cream and make butter and preserve excess produce? Are you not afraid of hard work, keen to learn and easygoing? If so, volunteering with us may be for you!
