We hope to become farmers in the next few years and joined Wwoof to learn while living and experiencing this life directly. We think it’s important to do this as a family before adjusting our lives permanently. We are passionate about the health of our planet and our connection to land, and that it’s key to addressing many of the biggest issues we currently face as a civilisation. We wish to learn from the experience and knowledge from those making a life on the land and through hands-on experience....and have a great time while doing it!

I have been told that its a great opportunity for young people to live abroad and learn simultaneously. Learn about sustainable living and how to grow your own food is something I am interested in.

Shambhala Oasis is a 10 acre rain forest property in Northern NSW Rivers Region which is being developed as a Spiritual Sanctuary and Learning Centre. One component of the vision is Shambhala Enterprise Cottage Industries, which includes organic production of fruit, veges & bush tucker superfoods. We are at the early stages of developing this property with quite a lot of planting, watering, bush fire mitigation, and building maintenance to do. The property is also dedicated land for nature, and we are blessed with a huge range of native birds, cute bush wallabies and panoramic views. Suitable for mature honest people with a sincere interest in non violence, spirituality & systemic change who can work unsupervised and love wildlife. This is an alcohol, tobacco & other drug free space thats loosely run like a post modern ashram or meditation centre with simple plant based diet.

City/Town: Pomonal
Farming Methods: Organic

We live on 280 acres, with 1 of 2 sons & small dog, nestled under the highest peaks of the Grampians National Park, 20 kms south of Halls Gap. We operate the Grampians Paradise Camping & Caravan Parkland, a beautiful, small camping ground with shady trees, gardens, small lake & wetlands. Native birds, animals & frogs abound. Bright starry skies. Work with us on environmental projects, fencing, gardening, maintenance, personal vegie garden and fruit orchard, firewood collection, ground works, jobs about the camping ground, occasional building projects (Aidan is very into Traditonal Timber Framing and nearly always has a project on the go). Caravan accom for 1-2 people with own cooking facilities and the use of the camp kitchen and amenities in the camping ground. Require own bedding. Campground amenities building has bathrooms and  laundry. No children. Some independent cooking and possibly some shared meals with family. Prefer No Smoking, and No Smoking Indoors under any circumstance. Can pick up from public transport at Pomonal (bus  Tues, Fri and Sun), Ararat, Stawell or Halls Gap (V Line Services - train and bus). See photos on our website. PLEASE NOTE: we have chemically sensitive family members, so will ask that no perfumes/fragranced products or scented washing powders, deodorants or shampoos are used before coming into our home. We are happy to provide unscented laundry powder, shampoo & soap as well as any advice.  Please note that some essential oils are okay, but please speak with us before using them. Having transport is a huge advantage in this location as there is no immediate public transport, and many of the bushwalks in the Grampians require a trip in the car to access start points. Having said that the new Grampians Peaks Trail, a 13 day trek through the Grampians will be passing within walking distance of our property, so at some time in the future there will be great access to this incredible walk - we will upate this note once they open the Redman Bluff section of the Peaks Trail.

I joined WWOOF to gain experience as an individual and in organic farming, I believe the future is in organic, sustainable farming on a local and commercial scale. We're seeing how unethical our methods are with poor crop yield, and unhealthy soils. I would like to learn how to bring organic farming to my neighborhood, and my own backyard in the future to reduce my carbon footprint. I want to learn from other countries, and their methods of sustainable agriculture.

We both have a genuine interest in organic living and sustainable living. With the plan to one day have a farm of our own, we would love to take the opportunity to learn from real farmers and learn the proper way of maintaining and harvesting the land and taking care of livestock.

Farming Methods: Permaculture
Accommodation Type: In Our Home, Separate Building, BYO Accommodation
All Foods Farm is situated in Buffalo, South Gippsland , Victoria. The farm has been operating since 2004 and is run on sustainable agriculture and permaculture principles, with emphasis on organically grown, fresh produce. As sustainable property we grow a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, mostly as older styles and heritage varieties. With a mixed orchard of apples, pears, stone fruits and berries we supply our customers with fresh, seasonal produce that they rarely get to experience when shopping at any large scale supermarket. In the picking season for fruit we attend local Farmers markets. Our current project is establishing our shop frontage directly from the property.  We are a bit more than a hobby farm, but not quite  a commercial farm.

We decided to join WWOOF as a means for contributing towards the lives and livlihoods of farmers in rural communities. We are in a unique position where we can offer our time and skills and thereby hopefully instil a deeper love and respect for our country and its diverse environment in the hearts and hands of our sons.

I joined WWOOF because when I was studying in Tasmania and traveling around, I met many WWOOFers from all over the world who had all really enjoyed their experience traveling around Australia this way. When I returned to the United States after studying in Tasmania, I got connected with some local organic farms near my home university in Colorado, where I worked as an intern and taught other community members about the importance of organic agriculture. Now that I am finished with my degree, I want to travel back to Australia and experience different styles of organic agriculture while exploring the beautiful country.

City/Town: Tamworth
Farming Methods: Biodynamic
Accommodation Type: In Our Home
Our farm is located 33km west of Tamworth NSW, on 460 acres. It is a beautiful part of NSW, a few hours inland from the coast and about 5 hours north of Sydney, 7 hours south of Brisbane. We live at the end of a dirt road on the top of a hill with no neighbours in site, this really is “country Australia!”. We breed horses and farm beef cattle. Our focus is on regenerative agriculture - using sustainable farming practises to improve and regenerate soils and the environment, and enhance productivity. We have owned our farm for 8 years and are building new infrastructure to improve it, including fencing and water troughs. We have around 30 horses at most times with several foals born each year. We breed quarter horses, that we then break in and train for the western sport of “cutting”, which involves working cows. You can check out our Facebook page Three Leaf Stud to see more about our horses. Rafe competes in cutting and reined cow horse when he has time, and I compete in the English disciplines of Eventing, show jumping, and dressage. So we have a range of horses, not just quarter horses, also thoroughbreds and warmbloods. Depending on the time of year, you may experience foaling season, starting horses under saddle, or horse shows. If you are a competent rider you may have the chance to ride regularly,  however this can’t be guaranteed until we see your skills in practice! A typical day here involves feeding and checking all the horses twice a day, checking water troughs and fence lines, and feeding cattle. We operate a hydroponic fodder factory sprouting barley seeds for our cattle, so seeding this, cleaning it and feeding out the fodder is a daily process. We ride most days and then the tasks vary from day to day, sometimes it’s fencing, or helping build something, fixing something, gardening, every day is different! Our house is quite modern and air conditioned, you will have your own room in our house with a beautiful view and bathroom, WiFi. We expect you to be clean and tidy and to help with things like doing the dishes, we cook and eat a mixed diet with meat and vegetables... and chocolate. We are both 40, no kids, friendly labrador called BenDog and a cool stable cat called BobCat. We treat people as we expect to be treated, and believe that in life, you get back what you put in!

I'm considering moving away from the built environment and working in agriculture. I think one of the biggest challenges in our time is how we produce food and the effects this has on the environment. As beef currently accounts for 5-6% of the world's carbon emissions, I'm keen to learn how we can produce low carbon beef, and other animals products, while regenerating the environment we work with. In essence, I want to gain first hand experience on soil regeneration using livestock techniques rather than just reading about it or watching Greg Judy on YouTube. I'm keen to learn all that I can and give something back to farms who are willing to host.
