I'm looking for an immersive experience to try different ways of living and hopefully gain hints about what kind of life is calling out to me. I need to gain lots of practical skills as well, and the best way to do that is through actual work with my hands. Hopefully I can be useful to the host during my stay there, doing whatever work needs to be done.

I have always wanted to be involved with WWOOFing and known about it for years, but I never had a good chance to do it. Now I'm in Australia, one of the most fruitful lands with heaps of people who know about good methods of sustainable healthy gardening. I want to get involved so much!

I want to learn while experiencing Australia! I'd love to meet great people and learn about horsemanship, permaculture, and any other skills they might have to share. In return I'll put in the work, AND sing/write stories/draw for you if you like! I'd also absolutely love to find the places that are special to locals. That's a large part of the point of traveling, for me.

Situated just north of Newcastle on 1 acre, we are a suburban market garden applying biointensive and permaculture principles. We run 30 x 10m raised garden beds growing chemical free seasonal vegetables that we sell to private clients and the fortnightly Maitland Earth Market. Our farming principles are based on The Market Gardener Jean-Martin Fortier Master Class education and permaculture courses from Milkwood and Limestone Permaculture. We are a family of 5 with 3 children under twelve. Our children are home schooled and are required to help on the farm as part of their education. When we are not farming we spend time our time 4WDing and walking local beaches, camping in the Barrington Tops mountains, bush walking Australia's top 100 walks, and boating and fishing inshore and offshore. Accommodation available is in a private bedroom with a double bed, cupboard and a personal bathroom and toilet.

I believe that growing your own food and living closer to nature is the best way towards creating better health and community now and in the future. I think these skills are going to be greatly needed and I would like to be able to contribute. Having lived in the city for most of my life I have a very limited scope of knowledge (ok, l have zero knowledge) which was made even more apparent when I completed my Permaculture Design Course at Noosa Forest Retreat in 2016, I realised then just how little I knew! My main reason for joining is to learn to grow my own food, and about preserving, composting, keeping chickens etc so I can better support myself and others around me. The other reason I’ve joined is because I enjoy being outdoors and doing work that allows me to move my body, not sit at a desk looking at a screen all day. I would also like to make connections with like minded people and travel around this beautiful country we are lucky to live in.

I would love to learn more about sustainable farming practices and techniques and am interested in learning more about permaculture. I would also love to learn more about native plants and associated farming practices. Being interested in nutrition and healthcare I think sustainability is a key aspect of human health that has been overlooked for far to long. I think we, as humans, need to reconnect with nature and gain an appreciation of where our food comes from and how it affects the land we live on. As I will finish my nutrition degree at the end of this year I am looking to travel around Australia next year (depending on the Covid situation). I think WWOOFing would provide an excellent avenue for me to do this while learning some priceless information along the way.

Through 2021, I'm looking to experience intentional communities with organic leanings 🙂 Last year I house-sat in one of the older ecovillages, Crystal Waters. I'm beginning 2021 with a month in Maleny's newest ecovillage EVA, to the oldest nearby, in Conondale Crystal Waters. Now at Gondwana in Tyagarah, June to December stretch out ahead as great unknown. With Diana Leafe Christiansen's excellent 'Finding Community' in hand. Ideally I'll join each place for about a month, learning more about different ways of being in community. If you're connected to community way of living, I'd love to hear from you.

To be in nature. To gain more skills, to develop a better work life balance, to have free accommodation as rent in Sydney is putting me well below the poverty line and is completely unsustainable. I would really like to make more friends with like minded people who are peaceful, interesting, respectful, considerate, kind and loving. WWOOFing is an experience on my bucket list I have wanted to try for ages.
