We moved in to this 100 acre property, situated between Pemberton and Northcliffe in the South West of Western Australia, at the end of 2018. It is surrounded by stunning karri forrest and on the crossing of the Bibbulmun walking trail and the Munda Biddi cycling trail. We have a productive home orchard and veggie gardens, as well as ponds and a lake with marron, the largest freshwater crayfish in the world and pretty tasty. We have cows, sheep, chickens, and a couple of worm farms. Also a very energetic young pomeranian dog, Rupert. Plenty of water is also a bonus in this country. In addition to our rammed earth house, there are also 4 holiday cottages on the property. Most of the time, our helpers can stay in one of the cottages if it is not during busy holiday times or long weekends. Otherwise, they stay in our house in the spare room. We have spare bikes for our helpers, so that they can go and explore this beautiful area. Projects include: During the winter months, David is busy planting lots of trees, so you will be able to help create a lasting benefit for the future. There are trees for fodder, shelter, fruit and some for longer term timber resource. We are experimenting with regenerative farming and improving the soil with growing a diverse mix of grasses and making and applying compost teas to increase the subsoil life. Other ongoing projects: Constructing and maintaining permaculture gardens and orchards, picking berries and fruit. Planting native flowering plants for the bees, propagating and seeding vegetables. Making compost and mulching the gardens. Woodworking projects, ranging from making greenhouse to re-fitting kitchens in the cottages. Chopping firewood and collecting kindling.

There are also Buses from Wonthaggi via Inverloch and Leongatha to nearby Mirboo North. Or from Traralgon and Morwell. If you want an interesting, varied, enjoyable experience, our farm is it! For 35 years now, on 940 acres of diverse plateau-edge forest with spectacular gorge pools and waterfalls, we two zoologists have created an off-grid, solar, gravity, wood and people powered - experiment in sustainable food gardening and land, fire and wildlife management. We have lots of food gardening  activities happening at the moment and are also helping out on other exciting community projects such as the Oxygen Farm (walking track), the Elands Company an old sawmill now used for community events and our bushfire creative "recombobulation" project at the local community health centre. Volunteer hours are flexible, tasks varied, and diet mixed with fresh fruit, vegies, nuts and delicious olives and many other preserves from the large caged garden/orchard and landscaped swales. Accommodation at the house is in 2 rooms, one with 3 single beds and one with a Queen bed but you can also choose to camp close by if you have that gear. Can pick you up from public transport at Wingham/Taree/Port Macquarie. Min stay 1 week unless you have own transport. Long stays are welcome as we love having visitors, sharing stories and showing them our beautiful river and plateau environment.
