Shambhala Oasis is a 10 acre rain forest property in Northern NSW Rivers Region which is being developed as a Spiritual Sanctuary and Learning Centre. One component of the vision is Shambhala Enterprise Cottage Industries, which includes organic production of fruit, veges & bush tucker superfoods. We are at the early stages of developing this property with quite a lot of planting, watering, bush fire mitigation, and building maintenance to do. The property is also dedicated land for nature, and we are blessed with a huge range of native birds, cute bush wallabies and panoramic views. Suitable for mature honest people with a sincere interest in non violence, spirituality & systemic change who can work unsupervised and love wildlife. This is an alcohol, tobacco & other drug free space thats loosely run like a post modern ashram or meditation centre with simple plant based diet.

Skills I Want to Learn:
The reason that I join Wwoof is to learn how to grow organic vegetables, including pest control, seed collection, irrigation, and all other process involved. I want to build a life style that I could be mostly self-sufficient, and also raise a few chickens ad other pets. I’m also interested in connecting with local farmers, not only to learn from them, but also to experience a different lifestyle. Now, I came to a realization that what work I choose to do, is what lifestyle I’m having. I choose to be close to nature and outdoor activities, and maybe one day will have my own veggie gardens. This is more attractive to me compared to computer work.

I've always wanted to work on a farm and now I have the free time to do so. I'm considering studying Horticulture and would also love to learn about permaculture so I thought this would be a great starting point. I'm eager to learn new skills, get my hands dirty and meet some great people - hopefully have some fun along the way. Also, I'm not afraid of doing a hard days work.

Only recently I heard of WWOOF on a podcast. Looking into it was something that called me to do so. I see that it is mostly for overseas volunteers but I thought, why not give it a go. My work is of a freelance nature, so I often have clumps of days off, sometimes a couple of weeks. I am currently considering leaving Sydney. As well as wanting to experience the country life I have always wanted to see more of Australia. Where to go is an open book. I would love to find a host in Tasmania, but I am open to all opportunities. I am interested in learning about living in unison with nature. I am curious about raising Beef and other animals for food. Permaculture techniques, living sustainably, off grid, water catchment, enriching and producing soil, composting. Building and maintaining fences and other requirements around a property. Taking care of pets and plants. I hope to learn various skills and a greater understanding of what is required to live this life. One day moving into this world permanently.

I am just about to complete my degree and after 4 years of studying am very eager to get out of the city and away from theoretical concepts and into the natural world with real people working hard to solve issues around food production. I cannot wait to have my hands in the soil rather than typing away on a laptop all day. Through WWOOFing I hope to gain an understanding of the real life practise of organic farming. While I don't plan on ever running my own farm, I do plan on having a career in the food system working on food security issues and whether that be in Australia or abroad, I feel I need to have a core understanding of the issues faced by farmers before I can begin this work. I do hope to one day own my own land and have my own kitchen garden and so (rather selfishly) also hope to learn a few tricks of the trade for my own food production. I currently have leafy greens growing out of planter boxes in my tiny garden out the front of my unit in the city and it ain't cutting it!

I’m joining WWOOF because I’m interested in finding farms where I could volunteer during my next “chapter” in Australia. I enjoy learning new techniques for farming or even Permaculture principles. Every farm has a different vibe and there is always something new to learn from other people.

I've always been interested in living off the land and one day would like to have a go a semi self sufficiency myself. I'm not sure if Darwin is the place to do this because of the poor soils, very dry Drys and the sometimes torrential Wets. I did two WWOOFing placements in the US and enjoyed it very much.

As I said in my profile, I want to go back to nature and I love the concept of wwoofing. The idea to share activities with people in this way is just a dream. It will be also an Opportunity for me to discover Australia and to improve my English. A friend of mine did it and she told me that it was the best experience ever.
