City/Town: Russell Island
Farming Methods: Permaculture
Accommodation Type: In Our Home, BYO Accommodation
Help us to help others. I have a functional neurological disorder that impacts on my daily life with movement, day to day living, speech sometimes, chronic fatigue. Wanting to start a support group for others that are similar. We would like to set up a food forest and sensory garden right here on Russell Island. WWOOFers help us to maintain the property and to build and maintain fruit trees, raised garden beds, hugelkultur garden, lasagna-method garden beds for a wide range of fruit and vegetables grown in an organic way. Wayne and I are an outgoing couple that like to meet new people and learn from all cultures. We are both chefs by trade but have moved onto the island for a quiet sense of life. We both like to get into arts and crafts. We are both originally from New Zealand and have been living in Australia for ten years. Graeme likes to go fishing and all things outdoors even though he's got this disability, he doesn't let that limit his life. Wayne likes to get into music and he's more the indoor type. We're pretty easy going people and like to learn new things. At the moment we're building our house and living in a tiny home at the back. We don't mind couples Building experience and gardening experience is preferable but not exactly needed. You must be friendly, outgoing, willing to work five hours a morning in exchange for room and board. Please let us know if there is anything you'd like to know about our little island.

Quandong fruit sells for $70/kg and is prized for jams, tarts and as a superfood. Our property is a working vineyard and a permaculture Food garden is at the moment a work in progress. New plans are prepared by one of our fantastic friend to expand the food production. Looking after the vineyard is the focus to create amazing grape which our winemaker turns into exquisite wine. We created a secure sanctuary for the Chooks, Guinea Fowls, Quails, and a Vegetable Garden with fruit trees. A few months ago we added 6 Alpacas Weathers (Floyd, Cosmo, Omar, Merlin, and Heston & Jo-EL) to our ever expanding livestock collection. They are so inquisitive roaming around the house paddock. I am LOOKING for a WWOOFer  a single, needs to be a  good fit.) Majority of work is outside, cleaning up, weeding and gardening.t. Preference given if you already have some skills and experience, but contact me anyway. Availability from soon.  Please contact me by phone. Please read my profile! 3 acres set in the Adelaide Foothills. 8 kilometers from the city and 8 kilometers from the Villiage of Stirling. There are many native animals, Koalas, Echidna, Parrots, Rosella, Kangaroo, Possums etc You will see Koalas very close to the house, most days. Our chicken coop works very well and the girls produce eggs daily. The coop is special in that it is Fox proof from this predator, keeping the girls happy every day. There is a large garden, some vegetables in pots, fruit trees. At the moment the fig tree is fruiting. Weeding is by hand especially noxious weeds and bagged up. We use pea straw or sugar cane to mulch. Over the years I have rescued many plants, so we are a haven for unwanted plants and it seems to work well in the garden. Its nice just to sit in the garden with a hot drink , relax and enjoy the peacefulness, watch the many birds after gardening. At the moment we have new baby kookaburras and magpies. I work part time from home, so there is usually something happening. This time of year i am busy preserving, jams, pickles, sauces etc so the kitchen can be very busy. Your accommodation is quiet and private in my home with an ensuite bathroom and shared toilet. Use of the upstairs lounge and an area to relax outside on the front deck. this truly is a unique property which I love. I have lived here for 40 years. Please be advised I will not contact you, if your profile has NO information about you. In order to consider any requests this information IS REQUIRED!

We are on 3.5 acres, which doesn't sound like a lot but we are doing plenty on it. We keep chickens and ducks for eggs and meat. I regularly raise chicks and ducklings to keep the supply up, and there is an almost monthly 'dispatching' day. We also keep goats, for milk and cheese (although they are dry at the moment, and due for kids in Feb 2021). They help keep the scrub down as well as being super fun to watch. The vegetable gardens and fruit trees are many and sprawling.  With a variety of organically grown produce to feed my partner and myself.  The aim for our property is to become as self-sufficient as possible, to reduce the amount of waste that comes onto our land, and reduce the amount of money we spend on store bought products. We recycle, reuse just about everything, food scraps go to the animals, and what ever we don't eat gets composted (including bones!). Check out our profile for more info 🙂
