City/Town: Russell Island
Farming Methods: Permaculture
Accommodation Type: In Our Home
Help us to help others. I have a functional neurological disorder that impacts on my daily life with movement, day to day living, speech sometimes, chronic fatigue. Wanting to start a support group for others that are similar. We would like to set up a food forest and sensory garden right here on Russell Island. Woofers help us to maintain the property and to build and maintain fruit trees, raised garden beds, hugelkultur garden, lasagna-method garden beds for a wide range of fruit and vegetables grown in an organic way. Wayne and I are an outgoing couple that like to meet new people and learn from all cultures. We are both chefs by trade but have moved onto the island for a quiet sense of life. We both like to get into arts and crafts. We are both originally from New Zealand and have been living in Australia for ten years. Graeme likes to go fishing and all things outdoors even though he's got this disability, he doesn't let that limit his life. Wayne likes to get into music and he's more the indoor type. We're pretty easy going people and like to learn new things. At the moment we're building our house and living in a tiny home at the back. We don't mind couples Building experience and gardening experience is preferable but not exactly needed. You must be friendly, outgoing, willing to work five hours a morning in exchange for room and board. Please let us know if there is anything you'd like to know about our little island.

Our farm is a mixed cropping, and grazing property set in a stunning valley in the foothills of the Richmond ranges National Park. We grow ginger, turmeric and garlic, along with vegetables, berries and a mixed fruit and nut orchard. Our animals include a small Jersey dairy herd, a few beef cows and five steers for meat. We also have five heritage breeding sows and a boar, and a few of our last batch of piglets. In addition we have poultry, Pekin ducks for eggs and meat, a mixed flock of about 3t chickens that produce gorgeous eggs daily. Finally, we have 19 guinea fowl, noisy, messy and often down-right annoying, but they eat ticks and keep snakes away. Other animals, we have two beautiful ginger cats for vermin control, mainly in the sheds, and a beautiful, loveable and majestic livestock guardian dog, a two- year-old Maremma, called Baci.

Skills I Want to Learn:
In the long run I'd love to look towards adopting a more rural lifestyle, so I'm pretty keen on picking up any know-how from WWOOFing that I can. I'd also really like to experience a change of pace from the usual rhythm of metro living! There's only so many more traffic jams, expensive degrees, and sneering young professionals that I can put up with before I go full loco and run into the woods to live like a hermit. As a nice middle-ground, I think WWOOFing would offer a great chance to experience a change in lifestyle first hand whilst giving back to the local community.

I am LOOKING for WOOFERS   a couple, but would consider 1 or  2 people if it was a good fit.) Majority of work is outside, cleaning up, weeding and gardening, there is a rock wall to rebuild. Preference given if you already have some skills and experience, but contact me anyway. Availability from 3.6.2020. Please contact me by phone 0414549108. Please read my profile! 3 acres set in the Adelaide Foothills. 8 kilometers from the city and 8 kilometers from the Villiage of Stirling. There are many native animals, Koalas, Echidna, Parrots, Rosella, Kangaroo, Possums etc You will see Koalas very close to the house, most days. Our chicken coop works very well and the girls produce eggs daily. The coop is special in that it is Fox proof from this predator, keeping the girls happy every day. There is a large garden, some vegetables in pots, fruit trees. At the moment the fig tree is fruiting. Weeding is by hand especially noxious weeds and bagged up. We use pea straw or sugar cane to mulch. Over the years i have rescued many plants, so we are a haven for unwanted plants and it seems to work well in the garden. Its nice just to sit in the garden with a hot drink , relax and enjoy the peacefulness, watch the many birds after gardening. At the moment we have new baby kookaburras and magpies. I work part time from home, so there is usually something happening. This time of year i am busy preserving, jams, pickles, sauces etc so the kitchen can be very busy. Your accommodation is quiet and private in my home with an ensuite bathroom and shared toilet. Use of the upstairs lounge and an area to relax outside on the front deck. this truly is a unique property which i love. I have lived here for 40 years
