We are a family living on a community of around 180 people south of Coffs Harbour. We have a large vegetable garden originally inspired by Linda Woodrow’s mandala system with a rotating chook dome. We have recently become interested in syntropic ideas and are building small areas of subtropical food forest into the system. John and I both work part time teaching drama, two of our girls are at school and one is homeschooling so we are not full time in the garden. We are looking for helpers who are happy to volunteer independently some of the time and with one of us at other times. Accomodation is in a comfortable separate caravan with a king and single bed with basic cooking facilities on the attached deck. We have a composting drop toilet, are totally off grid and share a shower with others in the community (we are currently building our own bathroom). The beach is walking distance from our house and we are surrounded by beautiful national park. We live a quiet life, definitely not a party house - and we balance private family time with time spent together with guests, so introverts/people who need their own space and time to recharge are very welcome. More sociable people will find there are opportunities to meet other community members for music, yoga, weeding groups etc. Meals are vegetarian or vegan and often gluten-free. Breakfast is eaten separately at the caravan, lunch and dinner with us or separately if you prefer. We are also open to negotiating shorter work hours if you prefer to self cater and have more time to pursue your own interests/paid work/study. We also sometimes need house-sitters to care for the property independently when we are away.

City/Town: Peacock Creek
Farming Methods: Biodynamic
Accommodation Type: In Our Home
Ours is an old-fashioned farm, mixed certified organic and biodynamic in conversion, set in a stunning valley in the foothills of the Richmond ranges National Park. We grow some vegetables (mainly for the household), berries and a mixed fruit and nut orchard, for our own use at this stage. Our animals are our main focus. They include a few Jersey cows, with their calves, a couple of beef steers for meat. And our fledgling herd of Galloways. We also have seven heritage breeding sows and three boars, and their offspring. They are sold direct to our beautiful organic butcher, Brisbane Organic Meats in Ormiston. So once every month we should have a new litter, so always babies here. Our latest acquisition is a small flock of Wiltipoll sheep, due to arrive very soon. In addition we have poultry, Pekin ducks for eggs and meat, a mixed flock of chickens that produce gorgeous eggs daily. Although we are cutting back on the ducks and changing our chicken flock out. Finally, we have 10 guinea fowl, noisy, messy and often down-right annoying, but they eat ticks and keep snakes away. Other animals, we have two beautiful ginger cats for vermin control, mainly in the sheds, and a beautiful, loveable and majestic livestock guardian dog, a two- year-old Maremma, called Baci and an adorable young Smooth-Haired fox terrier, called Dennis and our newest baby, Molly, a cheeky Kooli x Smithfield puppy.

The property is 300 acres situated just off the Bruce Hwy in Central Queensland. Most of it is bush although 20 acres is cleared and arable near the front of the property. It is 50km from the nearest township of Gin Gin. The beautiful discovery coast is about an hour away. I have been living here for almost 5 years and have started developing food forest plots and vegetable gardens. My grandson now lives with me so it is moving along a bit faster. Apart from a push lawn mower I do not have any mechanical help, it is all doing it the old fashioned way. This area of the Queensland coast has the best average temperatures of the eastern seaboard so most days outside of January and February are good for doing some work. I do not currently have a spare room for guests so at the moment I can only take in WWOOFers with their own van to sleep in.
