Caitlin Tacey Last Active: Active 1 week, 5 days ago Age: 21-25ViewGender: FemaleSkills I Want to Learn: Organic Practices, Permaculture/Biodynamics, Propagating, Soil conservation, Beekeeping, Worm farming, Building, Natural building methodsAfter 4 years of studying am very eager to get out of the city and away from theoretical concepts and into the natural world with real people working hard to solve issues around food production. I cannot wait to have my hands in the soil rather than typing away on a laptop all day. Through WWOOFing I hope to gain an understanding of the real life practise of organic farming. Given I grew up in Victoria, I am not so much interested in a cultural exchange or spending time doing 'touristy' things but rather working and learning from growers and farmers. I do hope to one day own my own land and have my own kitchen garden and so (rather selfishly) also hope to learn a few tricks of the trade for my own food production. I currently have leafy greens growing out of planter boxes in my tiny garden out the front of my unit in the city and it ain't cutting it! I joined WWOOF as a way to find my way into local communities throughout my travels, as well as gain new skills and understanding on sustainability, and where food comes from. I am excited to learn the ways of sustainable farming and homesteading, all while making valuable connections along the way. Somerset Heritage Produce Last Active: Active 6 months ago City/Town: SeymourViewFarming Methods: OrganicAccommodation Type: In Our Home, Caravan, Tent, BYO AccommodationRight on the banks of the beautiful Goulburn River we operate a 4(ish) acre organic vegetable farm providing produce to Melbourne and our local community through farmers markets and direct sales to our region’s best restaurants. We grow a wide variety of beautiful and seasonal heirloom vegetables. We love what we do, work hard and eat really well. Our farm is a great place to experience farming and learn about food growing. We are passionate about organic farming and are always improving our practices and sharing the things we have learnt. Everyday work varies greatly but includes planting, harvesting, weeding, seeding and attending markets. We host WWOOFers from all over the world and are always grateful for their enthusiasm, hard work and the opportunity to share cultures and experiences. Accommodation is mostly in the farmhouse but if the house is full we can accommodate people in the caravan (or your own tent/yurt/swag if you are feeling super outdoorsy). Ideally WWOOFers will stay for at least 1 week (some stay much longer.). We eat mainly vegetables from the farm and produce from other farmers. We love to cook and eat and share cooking and cleaning on a rotational roster. The house has fast nbn wifi and other mod cons like electricity. We have chickens and a very fancy rooster. The farm is right on the river within a larger winery property. The river is beautiful with great spots to swim, walk and explore. There are many trees and habitat for lots of wildlife including heaps of native birds and even the occasional koala. We are right on the edge of Seymour town and are easily reached by train from Melbourne. Looking forward to meeting you. Rebecca Johnson Last Active: Active 6 months ago City/Town: ViewFarming Methods: OrganicAccommodation Type: In Our Home, Tent, BYO AccommodationA rugged and wild property with 365 degree views of nothing but wilderness. Perched in on a ridge at about 300 and flanked by thousands of acres of national parks and state forest. It can be extreme, windy, dry, hot....yet also we a regularly flooded in by calamitous rains. The bird life here is literally off the scale, and the diversity of flora and topography something very special. I run a small plant propagation nursery and sales are predominatly made through various regional farmers markets and fairs. The property is also covered in food gardens and living plant collections.
