There is a wide variety of wildlife including lyrebirds, wallabies, echidnas and wombats, blue and fairy wrens, kookaburras, satin bower birds, black and sulphur crested cockatoos. We are growing tomatoes, pumpkins, zucchinis, mustard greens, rocket, kale, broccoli, carrots, beans (all types), herbs (all types), citrus, and many other fruits and vegetables. We are in the process of developing a master plan for our property, having moved here in August 2018. We are increasing the number of fruit and nut trees, are continually expanding the vegetable gardens, and enjoy fresh eggs with our 6 chickens and 2 roosters. The property is situated on the crest of a hill, with a beautiful area for camping and meandering in the valley by a natural brook, and another area at the top for workshops and retreats. Keith has a background in Ag Science and biotech start-ups (after a first career as a university professor); Brynnie has been growing not-for-profit organisations in the sustainability, health, maintaining Indigenous culture and social justice space (after a first career in international corporate law) and has studied Zen Shiatsu. Keith has lived in Germany and Brynnie is fluent in Spanish, Portuguese (having lived in Brazil) and gets by in French. Our children are in their mid-20s, having studied art history, philosophy and entrepreneurship, and environmental science, ecology and Spanish. We also have older children (via Keith) and seven grandchildren. We moved to this property in 2018 after having lived in Sydney for more than 25 years. 'Kawalang' means abundance in Wonnarua language. There is more about the property on our website. I really enjoyed it. I volunteered in a NGO called Hohepa where I was working with disable people and I learnt a lot. I’ve been working in basically everything since I arrived in Australia so I think it’s time to make a bit of a change for me 🙂 I’m looking forward to learnt new things and have a more meaningful experience over here. I believe in the world I live in as a chef/person who lives in suburbia people have become disconnected from where there food comes from and the effort and resources used to create this food. I would like to reconnect with our food production system and nature. To travel and see new places. Spend some time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I'm interested in crops, livestock, food, beekeeping, winemaking, and just about everything that takes place on a farm. I'm also eager to travel around Australia, especially outside of the cities. I'm especially interested in visiting Tasmania. I look forward to helping out and learning new skills on your farm, and to having a great time with awesome people. I also hope that I can be helpful to you in a time when there's not too many travelers around. We are passionate about farm life. Julio grew up going to the farm every weekend and holidays, and Thais grew up in the middle of the Amazon. And now we feel like we need to learn about farming techniques before moving to our farm. However, I always had to delay this dream due Visas commitments and full time jobs. Now I finally have the opportunity to be part of this community. To learn and teach knowledge and share this unique experience with like-minded people around the world. I’m fascinated with plants and vegie gardens as I always liked to play with that. My diet now is completely plant based (flexible to be vegetarian due of what is available to eat), and I try to eat as much as organic I can. It would be a great pleasure to work on an environment that I can learn processes and techniques of organic farms and share with people with the same or similar mindset. I’m also very interested to learn and work with permaculture as I believe to be one the most sustainable ways to live our lives and in harmony with our planet.
