“Millpost” is a 2700 acre wool growing property 30km east of Canberra. We have been implementing aspects of permaculture design since 1979. We mostly run merino sheep but also some poultry, house cows, sheep dogs, and cats. We grow much of our vegetables and have a nursery of trees for planting on the farm. Millpost is a beautiful part of the Southern Tablelands, with it’s rolling hills, Box woodlands, native grasslands and some great creeks and dams to swim in. We sit next to Kowen Forest, a popular destination for it’s mountain bike trails, river, history and Molonglo Gorge. Other attractions include our old lime kiln and aboriginal axe quarry. WWOOFers are included in all work on the farm and could be gardening, planting, working with sheep, fencing, building, whatever we are doing at the time.

I share my 1 acre permaculture garden and structures with my partner Rob, guests and abundant wildlife. If you are interested in permaculture, deep ecology, organics, bio-dynamics, plant propagation, weaving, creative building, bamboo, healthy lifestyles, ethical businesses, transition towns and inner work -  healing of Earth and people - you may like to contact me. I am a long term permaculture and social permaculture educator and facilitator and also train teachers, facilitators and group leaders from any industry in creative facilitation and interactive learning methods as well as offering ceremony and empowerment workshops for women, co-gender & community groups. I have written and self-published 3 books and run a small business to weave all this together. As well as gardening, landscaping and permaculture style land care work we often need support with building and construction, some functional, some creative and sculptural. I occasionally need support in my office and also with general domestics and food processing from the garden, and orchard. Creative & joyous endeavours are common. City/Town: Russell Island
Farming Methods: Permaculture
Accommodation Type: In Our Home, BYO Accommodation
Help us to help others. I have a functional neurological disorder that impacts on my daily life with movement, day to day living, speech sometimes, chronic fatigue. Wanting to start a support group for others that are similar. We would like to set up a food forest and sensory garden right here on Russell Island. WWOOFers help us to maintain the property and to build and maintain fruit trees, raised garden beds, hugelkultur garden, lasagna-method garden beds for a wide range of fruit and vegetables grown in an organic way. Wayne and I are an outgoing couple that like to meet new people and learn from all cultures. We are both chefs by trade but have moved onto the island for a quiet sense of life. We both like to get into arts and crafts. We are both originally from New Zealand and have been living in Australia for ten years. Graeme likes to go fishing and all things outdoors even though he's got this disability, he doesn't let that limit his life. Wayne likes to get into music and he's more the indoor type. We're pretty easy going people and like to learn new things. At the moment we're building our house and living in a tiny home at the back. We don't mind couples Building experience and gardening experience is preferable but not exactly needed. You must be friendly, outgoing, willing to work five hours a morning in exchange for room and board. Please let us know if there is anything you'd like to know about our little island.
