Bonnie Brae is a 1000 acre farm which has transitioned into regenerative agriculture in the past year from industrial agriculture. The farms main income is Merino sheep, both for wool and meat. However we have a very large vegetable garden and orchard which we are still looking to expand. The farm is owned by Don and Prue McAllister (65), and Dougal (27) is taking over the farm and manages the day to day work. Hilary (30), the daughter of Don and Prue is also home during Covid 19. Work for WWOOFers will include working and expanding the vegetable garden, fencing, painting, building maintenance, cooking, cleaning, picking pistachios, tree planting and much more. If WWOOFers have any skills or ideas, we would be more than welcome to let them explore their interests and put them into practice.

We are a non-smoking family who run a small herd of 50 rare breed free-range pigs and a small flock of 150 Shropshire sheep and cows. Meat from these rare breeds are marketed into specialty retail stores in Melbourne. Work includes plenty of work caring for livestock including feeding, watering, moving, litter recording, but there is also a lot of other activities such as fencing, collecting wood etc. We also have 2 horses, 3 dogs, chickens and a cat. Animal experience is certainly preferable, but a can-do attitude to work and eagerness to learn is essential. You will also need to be physically fit as it is physical work on the farm. The farm is situated about 2 hours from Melbourne by car or train. We are close to Colac, the Otway national park and Great Ocean Road so there is plenty to do and see on our days off. Your room is comfortable and well suited to a couple as there is a queen sized bed. We eat really, really well (best pork and lamb in Australia!! and lots of it) and eat as many of our own vegetables from the garden as possible. If you can cook too, all the better as we love to learn new recipes.

Happy Pig Farm is a bio-diverse Farm Tourism business in Stanthorpe South East Queensland. What our past WWOOFers have loved about being here is the diversity of experience from caring for our animals (pigs, sheep, chickens & horses), growing our own paddock to plate ingredients in our market gardens and meeting the many tourist who come to stay in our Farm Stay or visit our farm. They especially love the Good Food, Good Life and Good Company.
