I've just fledged my youngest child and I'm up for new adventures. WWOOF seems like a safe and fun way to be a solo traveler. As I age, I am becoming more interested in sustainability in all it's guises - food, housing, internal wellbeing. I know very little about gardening and permaculture, but I'd like to learn more. During this year of pandemic I've been delighted to grow veggies in my urban back garden. It's been a lovely creative outlet to make soup from my own ingredients. What do I hope to achieve by WWOOFing? Such an interesting question. I don't know and I'm leaning in to the discomfort of not knowing. At the very least, connection to new folk and new ideas with the opportunity to exchange my skills and ideas.

The House of the Rising Sun. Be the first to watch and wake up to the sunrise in Australia, perched on top of a mountain on the most eastern part of Australia, at the end of a valley, in a secret, giant forest overlooking the vast, majestic Pacific Ocean, is a place called Kinabalu. Many guests & travellers guests started to call it The Treehouse - a name that has now stuck. This is a private conservation park in principle with much work to do, including gardening, tree planting & environmental repair work. Surrounded by a rainforest sanctuary & nature reserve, you can take walks into old growth forest & swim in the waterfalls, so make sure you bring your walking shoes. It has been quite an achievement, building this over the last 11 years. I am presently focused on the garden. Come and plant some herbs if you have a green thumb. See you at The Treehouse - an experience you'll never forget!

10 hectare Organic Certified property recently purchased 5 hectares of fruit trees some very old some new and a lot of dead ones, on the front of the property there is a large shed that was used as a commercial spray painting business, inside that shed one end has a living area currently getting expanded to two bedroom, that is where myself and WWOOFers will stay. There is a house on the property but the plan is to rent it out to take the burden of the loan away. The property was purchased buy my Nona and Nono in the 50s and then sold to my uncle in 2000, so as I purchase the farm I will be carrying on the farming tradition 75 years later.

Have been living on our beautiful, organic farm for over 20 years. It is full of fruit trees, our cows, vegie gardens, birds, bush, lizards, fireflys and a dam and creek to swim in. We are working towards turning part of the farm into an ecotourist caravan/cabin/camping space, so people can come and enjoy nature. I, (Melina) work as a herbalist/yoga teacher/masseuse in a clinic I run in town, in nearby Macksville. Neri Murphy (my 23 year old son) organises the farm. We spend most mornings together, one day doing farm work, the next day going for a surf at the local beach. We recently purchased a caravan so we could have WWOOFers come and stay again, so if you come and visit you will have your own space. We have really good internet and good phone reception.

About Patrice: Patrice Newell was once on Television. But she left that industry in 1987 to become a sustainable land manager and writer/researcher dedicated to developing and communicating improved agricultural systems and innovations in an era of rapid climate change. Elmswood Farm has been her obsession ever since. We are a Bio-dynamic/organic farm producing and retailing garlic, olive oil, beef and honey. The WWOOFing jobs depend on when you are with us. Sometimes we are busy, especially November and April, other times not so. Accommodation for 4 in own house next to ours, some shared meals, mixed diet,  No smoking inside. Initial stay 2-4 weeks, longer stays negotiable. What work experiences are available to WWOOFers? Volunteering includes planting, mulching, weeding, harvesting, clipping or packing garlic. Stock work available for those with stock experience. Fencing work depending if WWOOFer is strong and interested.

The Western District coastline of Victoria is where we have our 30 acres, with 5 acres of native bush. We have visiting native animal such as koalas, kangaroos and plenty of birds. It is only a short drive to the seaside town of Portland. We use rainwater for everything and so planting with this in mind is very important. All that we are creating and building here is a wonderful learning and therapy experience. We would love you to join in with us as we try to create a place for all to enjoy even in our small way.
