Thank you for your interest in volunteering. We appreciate help, enjoy young people and having an excuse to visit the beautiful and interesting places Adelaide, the hills and the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia have to offer with them. Due to the corona virus all our booked overseas helpers had to cancel their flight to Australia. The first time in Years we might at times be without helpers at all. Some local Australian helpers, unable to go overseas are now filling the gap which is very nice as we used to have overseas helpers only before. Please read through all the text below and only apply if you think this is for you. We live on a 2 hectare property with the young Angas River running through. We have organic gardens with fruit trees, all sorts of berries, vegetable gardens with free roaming bantams, big layer hens, a Muscovy duck, flower beds, lawns as well as two goats on paddocks and a cute house cat. 1 of our 4 kids, Katharina, is living next door with her partner. Bernward is semi retired but still runs a sustainable architecture and building consultancy business part time from offices attached to the home. Barbara works at the local hospital. We have been accommodating helpers since 2011  through various help exchange sites. If you want a break from travelling in a non judgmental  friendly  family environment and you are open and self-motivated, this is the place for you. This is not an action or party place but rather a place to relax and get creative with great light, & scenery for painting and photography, write and get back to nature. A big woodworking workshop invites creativity. I enjoy teaching woodworking skills to our helpers with the option to learn how to fit out campervans and tiny houses. A couple of times a week we heat up our Sauna and helpers are welcome to join. Help is always needed in the garden & paddock, picking berries & apples, looking after animals, weed control, making firewood, compost, cleaning up sheds & around the place, sometimes on a sustainable building site. We live 45min by car from Adelaide, 45min from safe swimming beaches & 45min from the surf, so we are pretty central. Accommodation  for 2 in separate stone cottage & own room in the main building. All share in home cooked evening meal. Mixed diet. No smokers please. Longer stays (min 3 weeks) preferred after initial few days. Please contact us via email only.

Grant has a range of experience growing food and managing farms, having started in horticulture 43 years ago, then creating a landscaping business in Sydney for 8 years. He completed a Permaculture Design Certificate 35 years ago and upgraded the landscaping business to an edible landscape business shortly after. He then opened 3 nurseries in Sydney selling organic herbs, vegetables and ferns. He worked in the Findhorn Community in Scotland for 3 years looking after a nursey section, market garden and a large tunnel house growing summer crops. Directly after that he managed a 1 ½ acre market garden supplying vegetables to The Columbus Hotel on the Isle of Iona. Grant has been working with internationally renowned permaculturist, Geoff Lawton on a regular basis making permaculture videos for over 6 years. As a family we have been hosting Willing Workers on Organic Farms for over 18 years. We are looking for an energetic person with a strong work ethic with a physical working background and general gardening experience is preferred. There are also many building projects so any skill in that area is a bonus. This experience would suit someone who wants to learn how to manage land and grow their own food organically or is interested in becoming a permaculture teacher, designer, landscape gardener, nursery manager or market gardener.

City/Town: Broken Head
Farming Methods: Permaculture
Accommodation Type: In Our Home, Separate Building
We are part of an intentional community 5km from Broken Head beach and less than 10km from Byron Bay. There are 11 houses spread over 40 hectares and since our beginnings nearly 25 years ago, our main aim has been to re-establish rainforest on what was bare farmland. There are now over 200 different species of bird and animal life, which have been attracted by the new habitat. Native animals such as wallabies, echidnas, goannas, and a huge variety of birds are regular visitors. Our house has been built over the last couple of years with a sustainable focus - it's completely off grid and gradually becoming self sufficient as vegetable gardens and orchard begin to mature. Our main projects at the moment involve finishing the house, establishing and maintaining gardens and building a space for chickens, so there are always plenty to do.

City/Town: Yapeen
Farming Methods: Organic
Accommodation Type: Separate Building, Caravan
We live on a 5 acre rural block in Yapeen, Central Victoria. Yapeen is a great mix of quiet countryside within easy access to the historic goldfields and artistic hub of Castlemaine. We are owner builders and in the process of finishing a unique, off grid house. Our block has a diversity of native grasses, some large remnant trees, an abundance of reptiles and birds, resident frogs and visiting kangaroos. We have lots of plans and are in need of extra hands to get things done, but also keen for good company and to learn from and teach others. We need help with maintaining and improving the biodiversity on the block (weeding, native plant propagation, planting and watering revegetation patches and making wildlife habitat such as nesting boxes), house/shed building, animal fencing and gardening - we have an orchard and a large vegetable garden. We use organic methods only and implement permaculture concepts whenever possible. Activities you can do in your time off include bush walks, bird watching, visiting waterholes - we are close proximity to a natural swimming hole at Vaughan Springs. We have a spa/plunge pool available in the summer and a pleasant outside area for relaxing. WWOOFers will stay in a caravan or cabin with the use of our house for meals and bathroom facilities. We prefer to cook and eat together and are keen to experience cuisine from other cultures. We have a 6 month old baby and an enthusiastic 4 year old and would welcome others with small children.
