I've journeyed through some of my lowest depths so far, and I'm here - seperate from the rat race for a more profound, embodied journey. Moving forward now knowing I can grow to learn the way of nature and become one with the universal source. SO I step into the WWOOF community, liberated and ready to hear what you have to teach me. I choose to WWOOF because its a million opportunities in one, get up and get active, stimulate my mental and a chance to meet some life long mates on my way. I have always loved hearing about her travels and listening to her stories, and really wanted to experience that for myself. My degree at uni has played a big role in my decision to become a WWOOFer. I have always preferred hands-on learning, and what better way to learn about sustainable living, than to live it myself and experience it with real life people, rather than reading a textbook! I was originally thinking about visiting my first host family living in Cairns, QLD, but it seems difficult because of this situation under COVID-19. Also, I have been interested in agriculture and farming as it is really a basic part of our life, so farm staying is a good opportunity that suits to both of my interests! In Japan, I was living in a bit of rural area in Tokyo where only farmers are involved in those jobs. And I was working hard to make some money for this study abroad year, so I didn’t have so many chances to engage in farming. My university trimester will end in early October, and my flight to Japan is in late November (if it is go as planned), so I wanted to use those periods to do the things that I am passionate about with all my best! Sophie Williams Last Active: active 1 day, 23 hours ago Age: 18-20ViewGender: FemaleSkills I Want to Learn: Organic Practices, Permaculture/Biodynamics, Biodynamics practices and techniques, Animal CareThe reason l decided to join the WWOOF program is because I am in a weird place in my life where I have this window of free time before I hopefully get to study at university in Albury doing an outdoor recreation course. I'm just interested in experiencing lots of new things before then and want to gain some new skills and meet new people. I am interested in sustainable, community-focused living. I believe organic, environmentally-friendly agriculture obviously a big part of any sustainable life. I would like to learn more about, not only the food I eat, but the people who grow it and the land where it grows. I'm interested in meeting other people who share these beliefs and ideas! And just getting to know people who are living a different life from the conventional 9-5. I would also like to see more of rural and regional Australia. Although I've lived here all my life, I've not spent as much time away from the city as I would have liked to. I’m looking for a hands on work experience of how a thriving farm function. I’m very interested in ethical farming methods that harness nature rather than try to control it. I've studied permaculture principles through books over the past few years and look forward to doing my PDC in 2021. I also just want to meet new people that have the same passion as me and maybe stumble across some new opportunities! Arno Motulsky Last Active: active 6 days ago Age: 18-20ViewGender: MaleSkills I Want to Learn: I joined WWOOF for two main reasons. First, in my study of environmental science and climate change, I've realized how large a role agriculture plays in carbon emissions, especially through land use changes, in a way that is often overlooked. Given the time I have, I wanted to experience a more in depth perspective into the agricultural industry. Second, I spent half of my 3rd year of high school at a selective semester program on a farm in Vermont (the Mountain School), and really loved the experience. I was able to better understand the context of my food and the implications of the food choices I make.
