7 Elements Rachael Mayne
We have five acres of land and special gardens on the outskirts of the clay pans, nestled in between Mount Ertwa and the gracious MacDonnell Range at Ilparpa just outside of Alice Springs. The birdlife, wildlife and native garden is serene and full of beauty. We have adopted a permaculture ethos while also battling the invasive weed of buffel grass in the hopes of restoring and revegetating the land back into its natural habitat.
Why I became a WWOOF Host
We want to connect with like minded passionate people and can offer a wonderful opportunity for people to experience life in the red centre. We enjoy meeting new people and sharing ideas along with sharing our home to provide a unique Australian desert experience.
Organic/Biological methods we use
We have adopted general regenerative agricultural principles. We compost and are currently implementing a buffel grass management plan for the property, to encourage the growth and propagation of native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers. We are looking to use buffel grass as a medium to grow mushrooms. We grow our own vegetables and enjoy harvesting and cooking nutritious meals to be shared together.
