About the area:
The Gillies Range is a mountain range in Queensland, Australia.
It is a chain of summits south of Cairns that separate the Far North Queensland coastal plain
from the interior Atherton Tableland. At the foot of the range is the town of Gordonvale
Vanilla is a spice derived from orchids of the genus Vanilla, primarily obtained from pods of the Mexican species, flat-leaved vanilla. The word vanilla, derived from vanilla, the diminutive of the Spanish word vaina, is translated simply as “little pod”
Reviews from WWOOFers:

If you want to learn many fascinating facts about vanilla, enjoy the company of two wonderful people and get to know the valley life- this is the right WWOOFing place for you! My friend and I spent two whole months here, captivated by the beautiful property, the funny, entertaining and forward looking attitude of Carlo and Josie, all the interesting projects going on and their adorable dog Sugar.

One of our main projects was to participate in building a comfy little cabin for future WWOOFers. Enjoy your new accommodation! At Rusty’s Market we gave Josie a hand at her stall, selling fish, fruits, eggs and honey. And of course we got involved in the vanilla business: harvesting left over beans from last season, training young shoots, clearing out old plants, pollinating the flowers of the new season and more.

All year around there is plenty to do with these plants. After work we enjoyed yummy homemade Italian and Philippine cuisine and played cards. Always around and excited was Sugar, a little doggy idiot you just have to love. The combination of all this makes more than just a great experience. In our case it let us become a real part of this little family and formed a friendship that will connect us even after we’ll have left beautiful Australia.

We just loved our stay and are more than happy, that we stepped through the door of these wonderful, giving people. We will never forget our incredible lively time with you!

I had an exciting first WWOOFing-experience with Josephine & Carlo at their farm. The beautiful estate is on the middle of the “Little Mulgrave National park”. Great varieties of food from the own orchard, varied work e.g. Landscaping, Building and organic Practicing and a picturesque location. I had a really good time and learned a lot. Cheers! Leonhard

A very very good time spend with Carlo and Josephine. The Italian food provide was succulent even the Philippine’s food cooked by Josephine. Carlo is really easy going as well as Josephine. The couple is very generous. A great experience if you want to be part of a great Aussie couple on the Valley of Cairns. Cheers Madec
