In the wwoofer book my entry reads: #QU250 I live in a small shed on 6 acres of land, 2/3 cleared, 1/3 rainforest, backing onto Mena Creek, 20 mins from Innisfail.....
I've not been able to take wwoofers for over a year but am now desperate for help! My main project at the moment is building retaining walls from old tyres BEFORE the wet season really gets going (I've started it but need help or it won't be finished until next Christmas). See photo below. I added another tyre this morning after some heavy rain last night. This is the first time I've done this kind of thing so... novices out there - you are more than welcome to help, we'll muddle along together. And experts - you are more than welcome too, come tell me how I should be doing it! (IMG:http://debstar.com/meshack/retaining-wall.jpg) Other work I do: - planting native trees. Help! I buy them, then they sit in their pots for three weeks because there is so much else to do. - mulching natives with newspaper, old guinee grass, and topped with a shoot of pinto peanut (living mulch). - weeding & mowing of pathways. Work I'd like to do but ideally need a second pair of hands: - levelling out my bathtub wormfarm. It's on a slight slope and the ground underneath needs a mini cut & fill job. - cutting a track down to the creek (300m as crow flies, downhill & through the rainforest) and making it a permanent track. Work I'm hoping to get friends to do next year that you could be involved in: - fitting a "proper" door to the shed - shifting the 22,000l raintank onto a level base and installing it Please be prepared to get up at 7am and work WITH me for at least an hour, then have breakfast and a shower. It gets too warm after that to do any serious work. Breakfast is porridge, unless you bring your own. Afterwards you can either continue to potter around the garden with me, sit back under a shady tree and plough through over a hundred copies of Earth Garden magazine, or go walkabout and do your own thing. Lunch: simple sandwiches. Late afternoon I start up again and we will work from 4 until dusk, 6:30/7pm, unless there is something else going on. Dinner: thick vegetable soup, or omelette, or pasta. Not very adventurous in the food department, but I am open to ideas. What I can offer you: - pick up from Innisfail/Tully and drop off anywhere in between - a single bed inside, or double bed outside on the veranda - camp shower and composting toilet experience - huge library of Earth Garden magazines, and other similar reading material - rainforest literally on my doorstep - local swimming holes ********************** - NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY - ********************** This will be at a stunning property in the same neighbourhood with many like-minded local people. A good chance to meet a couple new wwoof hosts. PS - GIRLS! I'm a single female! If you want to be inspired, come along and see what one woman can do on her own with a little bit of help. I also have a friend, same age as my mother, who is also a single woman doing it on her own. She has been my inspiration, and you may get the chance to visit her during your stay too. PPS - GUYS! You're welcome too! A bit of manpower to do the things I can't is always appreciated. :o) I am a new WWOOF Host, my contact details will be in the Jan 2009 WWOOF book. If you have an earlier edition, please call the WWOOF office on 5155-0218 during office hours or e-mail wwoof@wwoof.com.au, quoting your WWOOF membership number and my host number #QU250 and they will give you my contact details.
