Insurance for WWOOFers
WWOOF Australia membership
includes a small accident insurance policy for members who have a membership
number beginning with "i" (for insurance). This insurance covers these
members if they have an accident while they are WWOOFing on registered WWOOF
Host properties within Australia only.
You will find the details of the WWOOF insurance policy on the inside front cover of your WWOOF book, including the policy number and the contact details in the event of needing to put in a claim. In all cases WWOOF Australia will need to verify with the insurance company that you are a registered WWOOFer on a registered WWOOF
Host property at the time of the incident relating to the claim and the Host will need to verify that the accident occurred during a WWOOFing activity.
For more information read the Product Disclosure Statement and the WWOOF Schedule These documents are in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. You will need the Acrobat viewer to view these files. this can be downloaded free of charge from Adobe
Note:
This policy is very basic
(up to AUD$10,000.00 cover)
and would be unlikely to cover all medical expenses in the event of an accident,
it does not cover WWOOFers in the event of illness. We strongly advise
WWOOFers to ensure they have adequate
medical
cover to suit their needs.
Ambulance transport in
Australia is VERY expensive & the WWOOF insurance policy only covers road
ambulance transport up to $3000.00. Air ambulance transport is not covered
and if used in an emergency, this can cost tens of thousands of dollars so it is
vital to have separate insurance cover for this.

Dear WWOOF,
In late 2009 a WWOOFer injured his hand while at my place and the injury
resulted in $5000.00 of surgery and hospital care. I was really impressed
with the responsiveness of the WWOOF Insurance scheme, something I had
considered "Micky Mouse" until I needed it. And I was even more impressed
and reassured by the support of you people in the WWOOF Office.
Thank you!!!
Ian, WWOOF Host SA036 March 2011
Dear WWOOF,
Thanks for everything you have done for me! The [insurance] money is on my account and really makes my life and travel a lot easier. My recovery is going slow, but I am recovering and we will be able to enjoy our further travels. We will definately have to come back to Australia, we missed out a lot. But we had a very good time, and many good memories too!... I had very good experiences with WWOOF Australia and the way you handled things after the accident made it even better. Thanks again!!
